Cabbage, chilli and cumin salad... Mood = Good for you


When i made my Tandoori chicken, i was thinking that i really wanted a nice crunchy raw salad to go with it that had a bit of bite. I had bought some cabbage from the super market the other day to make something completely different, but suddenly it got my attention and i thought that i would use them to make a delicious crunchy spiced salad to accompany this dish. You can serve this on its own if you like as it has weight to get through as a meal on its own.

Also cabbage is great for you as it is full of vitamin C, amino acids and has anti inflammatory properties. It is also used widely in diets as it is very low in calories. It also help with the thyroid, and also relieving swollen body parts! Who knew a small bowl of delicious cabbage salad would be so good for you.


This salad, has bite, flavour, and spice!

Recipe:

1/2 red cabbage
1/2 white cabbage
4 Tablespoons of olive oil
1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar
2 Tablespoons of lemon
2 teaspoons of salt
1 Tablespoon of cumin
chili flakes or Tabasco (to your taste)



Method:

  • Slice your cabbage into thin slices
  • Mix the rest of the ingredients together and pour on top of the cabbage.
  • Massage the sauce into the cabbage to tenderize it a little and serve.
  • Enjoy on its own or accompanied by a chicken dish

Crunchy, tasty and good for you.....

I love salads like that - with bite, flavour and spice. Thai-style does that job for me but I particularly like red cabbage and never thought of it in this combination. Delicious.

We love red cabbage in this house! Actually my husband just last night was saying how a simple red cabbage salad I often put together is one of the best things I make!

I love the spices you've added here--gives the salad some dimension. Delicious!

I love how the colour of the cabbage! It's so pretty =) It looks delicious too! I've never thought of putting cumin in a salad!

I always buy a whole head of cabbage, make one batch of coleslaw and have no idea what to do with the rest of it! This sounds delicious and oh so easy to make. And it just so happens that I have half a cabbage sitting in the fridge...perfect :)
